Aboriginal Dot Painting

In Australia, the Aboriginal tribes developed a striking style of folk art: dot painting. Using the simplest of tools and paints they represent their spirit world in pictorial stories. Traditional subjects include animals from the area, painted in "xray" mode (showing the insides as well as the outsides of the animal), human figures, human hands, geometric shapes and fields of primary colors.

Although somewhat time consuming if done in the authentic way, this technique is ideal for young folk art students since even the untalented painters can produce a really cool painting.
